Background

40% of the food supply in the U.S. is wasted every year. Chomp is tackling this problem with a system that transforms food waste into renewable energy and fertilizer.

As Art Director, I've helped create and develop our brand through a renaming & rebranding process, building a new website and a library of brand assets.

Brand Identity

Chomp's technology does so much good for the planet, but is not universally understood. The new brand conveys a sense of surprising simplicity to make our product and message as approachable as possible. It is bold, urgent, optimistic, and actively engaging.

I worked collaboratively on the logo design, and was the sole designer on the color palette, graphic elements, image treatment, and brand guidelines. The color palette was carefully chosen to maximize the number of high contrast color combinations to meet WCAG AA accessibility standards, making it very flexible to work with.

Website

The Chomp website was more than a redesign; it was a complete rethinking of how we wanted to speak to the customer. For them to trust our technology, we needed them to understand it. The new site takes the approach of communicating in small doses, and avoids technical language to be as approachable as possible. This is supported by clean, vivid imagery that conveys simplicity, optimism, and energy (literally).

I worked collaboratively with leadership to prioritize our long-term sitemap, and helped develop the messaging and copy along with our customer experience team and copywriter. I was the sole web designer, from wire-framing through final responsive designs.

6 months after launching, the new website saw a 3x increase in page views and users spent an average of 47% longer on the site.

Video

One of the outputs of Chomp's system is an organic fertilizer created from food waste. I got the opportunity to visit some of the regenerative organic farms that have been using this fertilizer to support their plant growth and soil health.

I worked on farms growing up, and have filmed interviews with a number of regenerative farmers over the years. There’s an endless supply of challenges in growing food this way, so I was glad to take time to visit these farmers in person to see the success they’re having.

I was the sole videographer and editor for this project.
